Password manager 1Password has released 1Password for Agents. When an AI agent needs to log in somewhere, it sends a unique key to 1Password to prove its identity. The user then gets an alert and must confirm. 1Password fills in the credentials and signs the agent in, so the agent never holds the password.
Supported agents include Claude Duet, OpenAI’s dots and ChatGPT Work, Grok Bot, Meta’s Muse and agents from the startup Town. The report adds that US banks have started detecting agent activity in customer accounts, and many cannot tell whether it reflects a real user request.
- Agents can act without handling secrets directly.
- Each login needs explicit user approval.
For developers in India building agent features, credential handling is now a design problem. Pairing agents with scoped, approval-based access is a pattern worth learning, and security-minded freshers can use it in portfolio projects.
